Metal Detectors

New addition to the collection

Been asked to do a report on the Aquavision Pro 2005 By Bryan [Finless] of YD dive forum
he also purchased one recently.

Aquavision Pro 2005 purchased from THE JAMES COMPANY on E-Bay £95.00. mainly to use as a back up detector.

........
Setup as advertised...............................................................Unit disassembled

As the price is about 25% of a half decent underwater detector I would not expect too much from this machine.

To date have not tried it on site [Halsewell wreck site] Feb 06

But have done the conversion and submersed in a water barrel. [see piccies]

Dunked it for half an hour and to my surprise it still worked.

The sensitivity and the discrimination is a bit basic, but it sort of works.
It will detect a piece of 8 to a depth of about 6" - 8"

Will be ideal for detecting cannon balls.i.e. big lumps of metal.

..........................
Battery compartment,...........................................................About to be dunked
handy if you have an 8 reale coin to open it .........................................................................

......
....The thirty minute test.Lead weight.............................Unit with handle and arm rest removed.
to keep it underwater as it is positively bouyant.................Made it more compact for underwater work

I have drilled two additional holes in the stem to accommodate the technical unit and it holds up no problem.
When it is closed down the overall length is now 600mm,
this is a more realistic size when you are concentrating your detecting on a small area.
The spare cable is bound around the stem and duct taped in place.
It will last half a dozen dives before the tape will start to unwind.

At the end of the day the whole thing can be reassembled to its original configuration.

If it does half what it says on the tin then it’s a bargain
[providing it stays watertight]

Aquavision claims :-
For the avid beachcomber, treasure diver, wader along the treasure coast, or deep-sea diving detector,
the Aquavision Pro has what you are looking for.
Unlike most underwater detectors, the Aquavision Pro works great in salt water as well as freshwater,
and with a maximum depth of 132 feet, there is virtually no treasure out of your grasp.
With only two knobs, this detector is a miracle of high technology.
One knob is for power on, battery test, and discrimination; the other knob is for sensitivity.
Lightweight, with comfortable foam grip, this detector is a pleasure to use in or out of the water.
The detector takes a 9v battery (not included), which can provide hours of operation time.
Pinpointing is a breeze with only the slightest movement needed for positive target results.
With state of the art patented quartz crystal electronics the Aquavision Pro operates in frequencies
even below the VLF (Very Low Frequency) spectrum. With the included waterproof and specially engineered piezo-elastic
headphones, this is truly a treasure hunters dream.

Will update the report when it has been through its paces March or Easter 2006.
